New Lexus GT car spotted at Fuji test

Very special thanks to student/photographer Takahiro Yajima for capturing these images of what appears to be a new Lexus GT race car being put through its paces around the company’s “home track” of Fuji Speedway.

There are two substantial theories as to what this mysterious new car might be.

The first is that it is Lexus’ 2017 GT500 car, which is heavily rumoured to be based upon the new LC500 flagship performance coupe. That new 2017 Lexus model will be revealed at Suzuka Circuit on the weekend of the 45th International Suzuka 1000km.

The second, deduced by our friend Geinou, is that is a new FIA GT3 category car, meant to replace the struggling first-generation RC F GT-3 that currently competes in the hands of the Syntium LM Corsa team in GT300. Lexus is also due to launch a new GT3 car for 2017, in preparation for a factory racing effort in the IMSA SportsCar Championship among others.

We will know concrete details as early as this August, when Lexus reveals their 2017 GT500 challenger.
