It hasn’t been the best of seasons for the Subaru R&D Sport team in GT300, starting off with zero points to their name after two races. But there will be brighter days ahead for the boys in blue – quite literally!
The #61 Subaru BRZ arrived at Sugo this weekend with upgraded full-LED head and tail lamps, just like the ones found in the 2017 road-going model of the BRZ.
The front fascia of the car is also re-shaped to reflect the styling refinements made to the 2017MY BRZ. And those aren’t the only changes being made to Subaru’s GT300 challenger this weekend.
A change in the JAF-GT300 technical regulations allowed Subaru to install a new louver on the lip of the hood and trunk lids for performance purposes. The louvers are expected to improve heat dissipation and cooling from the car’s Dunlop tyres, especially crucial during the summer series.
Subaru expects good results out of their refined BRZ, in the hands of young drivers Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi, the latter a former polesitter at this track in 2014. Iguchi and Yamauchi finished fifth at Sugo last year.
And with Sugo’s tight, twisty nature lending itself to favor the JAF-GT300 cars like the BRZ, they may very well break their drought in a big way this weekend.
