Today, the GT Association (GTA Co.), promoter of the Autobacs Super GT Series, released the provisional calendar for the 2017 Super GT Series, featuring eight rounds at seven venues, with the series set to return to Autopolis next year.
|1||Apr. 8-9||Okayama International Circuit|
|2||May 3-4||Fuji Speedway (Fuji 500km)|
|4||Jul. 22-23||Sportsland SUGO|
|5||Aug. 5-6||Fuji Speedway|
|6||Aug. 26-27||Suzuka Circuit (Suzuka 1000km)|
|7||Oct. 7-8||Chang International Circuit (Thailand)|
|8||Nov. 11-12||Twin Ring Motegi|
The order of the schedule remains as it was provisionally in 2016, before the deadly Kumamoto earthquakes on April 14 and 16 caused the 2016 Super GT in Kyushu 300km on May 21-22 to be cancelled, and later rescheduled as the second part of a two-race finale at Twin Ring Motegi.
Autopolis is set to return on May 20-21, after the April 9 season opener in Okayama (the seventh straight year that Okayama has hosted the first round of the Super GT season), and the Golden Week holiday classic, the Fuji 500km. The Fuji 500km will run on Thursday, May 4th – the race’s traditional date. After Autopolis, there’s the customary two-month break before the three-race “Summer Series”.
The Summer Series will once again consist of the July 23 race at Sugo, the 300km race at Fuji on August 6, and the 46th International Suzuka 1000km on August 27.
Chang International Circuit in Thailand will once again host the series’ only fly-away race on October 8, one month later, the season is set to wrap up at Motegi – a single race this year – on November 12. Motegi hosts the series finale for the ninth year in a row with at least one 250km race.
Per usual, the schedule has been finalized with consideration to other world championship events to be held in Japan, but may be subject to change later on.
