Three red flags dampen wet Motegi first practice

A frigid, rain-soaked opening practice session for the Motegi GT Grand Final saw very little on-track action, punctuated by three red flag stoppages, including two off-track excursions at the Victory Corner.

The #1 Motul Autech NISMO GT-R (Tsugio Matsuda / Ronnie Quintarelli) led a Nissan 1-2 in GT500, with a best time of 1:52.885. The #46 S Road Craftsports MOLA GT-R (Satoshi Motoyama / Katsumasa Chiyo) was second-fastest.

It was a Mercedes-AMG 1-2 in GT300, led by the #11 Gainer Tanax AMG (Katsuyuki Hiranaka/Björn Wirdheim) which went fastest with a 2:07.709, followed by the #4 Goodsmile Hatsune Miku AMG (Nobuteru Taniguchi/Tatsuya Kataoka).

The session was interrupted by three red flags for single-car incidents.

The #31 apr Racing Toyota Prius GT (Koki Saga/Yuichi Nakayama) was the first to go off circuit, hydroplaning off at the Victory Corner just twenty minutes into the session.

With under twenty minutes to go, the #6 Wako’s RC-F (Kazuya Oshima/Andrea Caldarelli) also ran off at the same corner, making very slight contact with the tyre barrier at the end of the runoff.

Finally, the #51 JMS LM Corsa Ferrari 488 driven by Morio Nitta crashed at the exit of turn 2, with five minutes remaining, bringing an end to the session.

Nitta was not able to exit the car under his own power at first, requiring the assistance of Super GT’s First Rescue Operation (FRO) and medical team to leave the scene of the accident. Information about his condition will be provided as soon as it is available.
