Kondo Racing fastest in final day of Sepang tests

On the fourth and final day of Super GT manufacturer and tyre testing from Sepang International Circuit, it was the Kondo Racing Nissan GT-R piloted by Daiki Sasaki and João Paulo de Oliveira that was the fastest car out on track

In second place for both sessions was the #16 Mugen Honda NSX-GT of Hideki Mutoh and Daisuke Nakajima, giving Yokohama a big boost of momentum going into the 2017 season as their cars finished 1-2 on the final day of testing.

During the wet conditions in the morning session, it was the Honda NSX-GTs who once again showed a fair bit of strength in the conditions, with the #99 Honda NSX-GT – the designated R&D vehicle for Honda Racing – going fastest in the session, ahead of the #16 Mugen NSX-GT.

The afternoon session would be less bountiful for the #99 NSX, as a single-car incident in turn four brought out a 20 minute red flag.

By the time the afternoon session began at noon, the air temperature was already up as high as 38°C with high humidity, and the track had mostly dried out as teams elected to focus on race simulations.

The #24 Kondo Racing Advan GT-R of Sasaki and Oliveira recorded the fastest time of the day, a 1:50.350 – over eight-tenths of a second faster than the second-placed Mugen NSX-GT. Second through sixth place in the afternoon tests were covered by just 0.128 seconds.

The #36 au TOM’s LC500, which recorded the fastest outright lap of the test on day two, elected to spend the test trying out new aerodynamic pieces, as did the #093 Lexus LC500 and the #230 Nissan GT-R.

For the third day of testing, the #35 Toyota Team Thailand MC86 piloted by Yuhki Nakayama was the fastest of the two GT300 cars, beating out the #60 LM Corsa Lexus RC F GT3.

The next test will be the first official Super GT pre-season test, held at Okayama International Circuit on March 18-19.
