The 2017 Wonder Festival of Winter – the biggest collectible figure expo in Japan – was the perfect platform for Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO to launch the new race livery of their #4 Goodsmile Hatsune Miku Mercedes-AMG GT3, as well as unveil the 2017 Personal Sponsor courses for prospective backers of GSR.
Team owner Takanori Aki, team director Ukyo Katayama, and two-time champion drivers Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka were on hand as Goodsmile Racing unveiled the new colours of the car that will honour GSR’s tenth season in Super GT.
The 2017 rendition of the wildly popular “itasha” car was designed in collaboration with prominent Japanese visual artist and character designer Tony Taka, with a vibrant floral motif for the beloved Hatsune Miku character and the rest of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 which she adorns.
Taniguchi, who won his two GT300 championships with Goodsmile Racing in 2011 and 2014, vowed to win the championship for a third time – the team have certainly come a long way since their inception in 2008!
A substantial part of Goodsmile Racing’s success and popularity, along with their racing record and anime-inspired looks, is their Personal Sponsors programme – a crowd-funding initiative, and arguably the most successful programme of its kind in all of motorsport.
There’s everything from ticket holders, to sticker sets – but investing in a Nendoroid or Figma Course will get you exclusive items including diecast cars, t-shirts, hats, umbrellas, racing jackets, and even the polo shirts worn by the Goodsmile Racing team members at every race, just for purchasing a figure!
The first of four “Recruitment Periods” have begun and run through March 8, with the following periods running from April 28-May 24, July 14-August 30, and October 27-November 30. International supporters can purchase their sponsorship courses through the Goodsmile Racing Online Shop.
