Yuhi Sekiguchi and the #19 WedsSport Advan Lexus LC500 topped the time sheets in the second day of Official Testing for the Autobacs Super GT Series on Sunday.
With favorable conditions in the morning session, Sekiguchi went on to complete a total of 139 laps on the day, 265 in total over both days, to set the fastest outright time of the two-day testing period in the Yokohama-clad Lexus.
Sekiguchi’s best time of a 1:11.424 was set during the AM session, getting him within under a second of the current GT500 lap record at Sugo. Even without Yuji Kunimoto, present only in the form of a cardboard cutout around the paddock this weekend, Lexus Team WedsSport Bandoh still enjoyed a productive test this weekend.
Second-fastest was the #24 Forum Engineering Advan GT-R (Daiki Sasaki/João Paulo de Oliveira), completing the Yokohama 1-2 at the top of GT500. Sasaki’s best lap from the morning session was a 1:11.476 – the defending Sugo race winner looking keen to repeat this year.
The #8 ARTA Honda NSX-GT (Tomoki Nojiri/Takashi Kobayashi) was third-quickest, and fastest of the Hondas in the second day of testing.
It was the Michelin-clad #46 S Road Craftsports GT-R (Satoshi Motoyama/Katsumasa Chiyo) who topped the Sunday afternoon session with a fastest lap time of a 1:11.906 from Motoyama.
In GT300, Tatsuya Kataoka set the fastest time of testing aboard the #4 Goodsmile Hatsune Miku Mercedes-AMG GT3, with a 1:18.379. FIA GT3 category cars locked out the top nine places in the Day 2 running order, a surprise given the circuit’s lenience to the high-downforce JAF-GT300/MC cars.
The #3 B-Max NDDP Nissan GT-R (Kazuki Hoshino/Mitsunori Takaboshi) was second quickest, followed by the #88 ManePa Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (Manabu Orido/Kazuki Hiramine/Tsubasa Takahashi). Best of the JAF-GT300/MCs was the #18 Upgarage Bandoh 86 (Yuhki Nakayama/Shintaro Kawabata) in tenth, eight-tenths off the pace of the leading Miku AMG.
The Super GT teams and drivers will reconvene on June 30 and July 1 for the fourth official test of 2017 at Suzuka Circuit. (On our one-year anniversary, no less!)
