EIcars Bentley TTO (Teramoto Technical Office) have brought on Bentley Motorsport factory racing driver Steven Kane for a private test at Fuji International Speedway on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old Ulsterman, hailing from Newfounards, will be driving the #117 EIcars Bentley Continental GT3 regularly driven by Yuji Ide and Ryohei Sakaguchi, as the team prepares to return to action on August 6 at the same venue for the Fuji GT 300km Race.
Kane is a seventeen-year veteran driver who has competed in everything from Formula Ford, Formula 3 and Formula Renault 3.5 (now Formula V8), to the British Touring Car Championship, the American Le Mans Series, and Porsche Carrera Cup of Great Britain.
In 2013, he joined Bentley as a factory GT3 driver, where he’s scored multiple wins and podiums with Bentley Team M-Sport in the Blancpain GT Series – including podium finishes at marquee events such as the Bathurst 12 Hours in Australia.
In June, EIcars Bentley TTO announced additional factory support in the form of engineers from the European racing programmes. The addition of one of Bentley’s top factory drivers to help support the team, however, should continue to boost the first-year team’s fortunes throughout the remainder of 2017.
Kane’s test in the EIcars Bentley is just that for the moment – a test – but it would be hard to envision a scenario in which he isn’t considered for a racing drive with the team later in the season.
EIcars Bentley TTO will not be at the next round of the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series at Sportsland SUGO, due to their current Seed Rights standings and the limited garage capacity at the venue itself.
