The third installment of our 2016 Super GT race analyses picks up after an unexpectedly lengthened hiatus. With the third round at Autopolis ultimately rescheduled and relocated to Twin Ring Motegi at the end of the season, the Super GT series was laid off for nearly three months following the Fuji 500km on May 4.
Indeed, Super GT did return to action for the fourth round of the season, the Sugo GT 300km Race, held on July 24, 2016 at Sportsland SUGO.

We’re fans of motorsport at Super GT World. And we’re fascinated by analytics. Our race analysis of last autumn’s Buriram Super GT Race in Thailand was an unprecedented attempt to try and quantify and evaluate as many drivers as possible over the course of an extended run during a race.
At the time, with only the race data from Buriram available, we thought it would be the only chance all year to do something like this. As it turns out, several months after the end of the season, we discovered that Super GT’s official mobile website carries all of the timing and scoring information for every round of the championship. That includes every race lap of every car and every driver for all eight rounds of the 2016 Super GT Series.
So, as the first of a multi-part installment, we present the race analysis and driver rankings for the domestic rounds of the 2016 Autobacs Super GT Series, starting with the season-opening race at Okayama International Circuit held on April 10, 2016.

The 2016 Super GT World Awards recognize the most outstanding individuals from the 2016 Autobacs Super GT Series.
To celebrate the most outstanding all-around driver in the GT500 class, the fastest and most competitive class of GT sports car racing on the planet, we present the GT500 Driver of the Year award.
There were 32 drivers who took part in at least GT500 class outing in 2016, and the gaps between each drivers’ abilities is so incredibly small. There are no weak links in the GT500 driver roster whatsoever. Making this list was incredibly difficult, and know that even the drivers who did not make the cut as a finalist for this award, or even made it into the honourable mentions, deserve all the praise in the world as elite talents in all of motorsport.
