Snow disrupts Toyota tyre test at Fuji; Rosenqvist runs for Team LeMans

Toyota Techno Craft (TTC) took five of their supported cars from the Autobacs Super GT Series, as well as TOM’s two cars from the All-Japan Formula 3 Championship and the FIA F4 Japanese Championship, to Fuji Speedway for a private test primarily for the GT500 cars.

Four Lexus LC500s, plus a lone GT300 class Lexus RC F GT3, were on hand for the test which was interrupted by a flurry of snow on a cold January morning at the circuit.

The #6 Wako’s 4CR LC500, one of four Lexus sporting their revised 2018 aero package, set the fastest time of the test with a 1:28.483 – but it was an eagle-eyed observer who spotted the biggest story of the test: Felix Rosenqvist, the current FIA Formula E Championship leader, driving the blue and pink number 6.

Super GT honours its Heroes in Tokyo awards ceremony

On Friday, the GT Association (GTA) held the third annual Super GT Heroes show from the Westin Hotel Tokyo, a postseason awards banquet to commemorate the accomplishments of the teams and drivers in the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series.

The awards kept coming in for GT500 Drivers’ Champions Ryo Hirakawa and Nick Cassidy, GT300 Drivers’ Champions Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka, and the Lexus Team KeePer TOM’s and Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO squads as they were presented with their official championship trophies from the GT Association.

Super GT’s champions honoured at JAF Motorsports Awards Ceremony

This Friday, the champions of all of Japan’s major national racing championships gathered for the annual JAF (Japan Automobile Federation) Motorsports Awards Ceremony in Tokyo.

The drivers and team directors of Lexus Team KeePer TOM’s, and Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO, were presented their awards for winning their respective classes in the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series by the GT Association (GTA) – and they weren’t the only Super GT personalities to win awards this racing season.

Miyata wins back-to-back F4 Japanese Championships

Ritomo Miyata, one of the impressive young prospects of the Toyota Young Driver Programme (TDP), has made FIA Formula 4 history by becoming the first back-to-back champion of the F4 Japanese Championship, the official support series of the Autobacs Super GT Series.

On the strength of a win and a third place finish in two races at Twin Ring Motegi this past weekend, Miyata overturned a 13-point deficit to rival Ukyo Sasahara to win his second F4 championship – the first multi-time champion of an FIA Formula 4 series – as well as the third in as many seasons for the TOM’s Spirit team.
