2017 Super GT World Awards: Team Director of the Year

Every year, Super GT World honours the most outstanding performers in the Autobacs Super GT Series with the Super GT World Awards.

This award is the Team Director of the Year award, given to the most outstanding team manager (or in some cases, the most outstanding chief engineer) in the Autobacs Super GT Series across both GT500 and GT300 categories. While the cars and drivers are the stars of the show, they require the guidance and direction of an effective leader!

Our six nominees were selected, and here they were, including our winner for 2017…

2017 Super GT World Awards: Shinichi Yamaji Memorial Award

Every year, Super GT World honours the most outstanding performers in the Autobacs Super GT Series with the Super GT World Awards.

In recognition of the individuals whose contributions to the series best exemplify the positive values of sportsmanship, competition, and humanity, Super GT World presents the Shinichi Yamaji Memorial Award. It is named after veteran competitor Shinichi Yamaji (1964-2014), who defined himself and his legacy long after his passing, through a single act of courage in the 1998 All Japan GT Championship.

Last year, there was a unanimous victor, this year, there were seven finalists – but only one could win the award. First, some honourable mentions…

Goodsmile Racing remain unchanged for 2018 title defense

This Saturday, the reigning three-time GT300 champions Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO announced their plans for the 2018 racing season.

Three-time Drivers’ Champions Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka will remain the drivers of the GSR Hatsune Miku Mercedes-AMG GT3, which will once again carry the GT300 champion’s number 0 as they did in 2012 and 2015.

The team also announced their entry into the 2018 Suzuka 10 Hours, with Kamui Kobayashi joining the team as their third driver for the revamped 47th running of the Suzuka summer endurance race.

Super GT honours its Heroes in Tokyo awards ceremony

On Friday, the GT Association (GTA) held the third annual Super GT Heroes show from the Westin Hotel Tokyo, a postseason awards banquet to commemorate the accomplishments of the teams and drivers in the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series.

The awards kept coming in for GT500 Drivers’ Champions Ryo Hirakawa and Nick Cassidy, GT300 Drivers’ Champions Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka, and the Lexus Team KeePer TOM’s and Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO squads as they were presented with their official championship trophies from the GT Association.
