Super GT honours its Heroes in Tokyo awards ceremony

On Friday, the GT Association (GTA) held the third annual Super GT Heroes show from the Westin Hotel Tokyo, a postseason awards banquet to commemorate the accomplishments of the teams and drivers in the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series.

The awards kept coming in for GT500 Drivers’ Champions Ryo Hirakawa and Nick Cassidy, GT300 Drivers’ Champions Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka, and the Lexus Team KeePer TOM’s and Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO squads as they were presented with their official championship trophies from the GT Association.

Goodsmile Racing win 2017 ZF Award for Best Mechanics

ZF Friedrichshafen AG, title sponsors of Super GT’s awards for the best team of mechanics in the series, have presented the ZF Award for Best Mechanics of the Year to Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO, the GT300 champion team for 2017.

It is the second time in four seasons that Goodsmile Racing have won the season-long ZF Award, led by team director Ukyo Katayama, and chief mechanic Satoshi Kohno.

Super GT’s champions honoured at JAF Motorsports Awards Ceremony

This Friday, the champions of all of Japan’s major national racing championships gathered for the annual JAF (Japan Automobile Federation) Motorsports Awards Ceremony in Tokyo.

The drivers and team directors of Lexus Team KeePer TOM’s, and Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO, were presented their awards for winning their respective classes in the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series by the GT Association (GTA) – and they weren’t the only Super GT personalities to win awards this racing season.

Champions’ Reaction: Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO

Ten years ago, what is now Goodsmile Racing began their racing journey in earnest as a privateer with a colourful anime-inspired “itasha” car, but little hope of realistic results.

In their tenth season, Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO have now won their third GT300 championship in the last seven years, putting the team and their drivers, Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka, into elite company. They may now well and truly be the greatest GT300 team of all time.
