The last 2016 Super GT Race Analysis for a few days will be a look at the crown jewel of the Super GT calendar and of Japanese sports car racing, the 45th International Suzuka 1000km, held on August 28, 2016 at Suzuka Circuit.
Toyota Gazoo Racing and Lexus Gazoo Racing announced their 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series participation in a press conference held Thursday morning at the Mega Web theme park in Toyota City.
Lexus’ six-car GT500 entry is highlighted by the return of Toyota Gazoo Racing ace driver Kazuki Nakajima, who returns to Super GT for the first time since 2015 in the #36 au TOM’s Lexus LC500.
In GT300, apr Racing and LM Corsa are the works teams for TGR, with LM Corsa fielding two brand new Lexus RC F GT3s this season.
After a star-crossed 2016 season, Team Cerumo finally got a lucky bounce and scored the victory in this year’s Suzuka 1000km. It was the highlight to another season where misfortune just seemed to strike out of nowhere when they needed it the least.
The December 2nd issue of auto sport Magazine features an in-depth breakdown of the prospective 2017 GT500 driver lineups in the Autobacs Super GT Series. It’s the first true breakdown of Super GT’s “silly season” to emerge this off-season.
Remember that these rumours are just that, rumours, and the official confirmation of the lineups for Lexus, Nissan, and Honda will be made in February at each manufacturers’ respective global motorsport press conferences. Between now and then, many things can change that can drastically alter the complexion of the series.
Still, there possibilities laid out are intriguing, and will create a lot of discussion in the months to come.
