On Sunday morning, before the start of the 2018 Autobacs Super GT Series opening round at Okayama International Circuit, GT Association (GTA) Chairman, Masaaki Bandoh, spoke to the Japanese media in his first pre-race press conference of 2018.
Bandoh-san’s main focus for his press conference was to outline Super GT’s future plans in their collaboration with the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) championship, including joint-promoted exhibition races that could take place as soon as 2019, and the proposal of a “world championship” between the two series in the near future.

On Saturday’s press conference for the media held before qualifying for the Suzuka 1000km, GT Association (GTA) chairman Masaaki Bandoh officially confirmed that the Fuji GT 500 Mile Race will become the new endurance round of the Autobacs Super GT Series when it is first run on August.
This news was first reported on August 9, shortly the Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) 2018 motorsports calendar was released, with the Fuji GT 500 Mile Race appearing on the August 4-5 weekend that was confirmed by Super GT on July 27. At the time, no official announcement had been made by Super GT regarding the distance of the event, but on Saturday, Bandoh-san told the press about the new August endurance race at Fuji.

As the final chapter of the International Suzuka 1000km is written this weekend, Suzuka Circuit, the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO), and the GT Association (GTA) all continue to look towards the future.
On Friday, GTA chairman Masaaki Bandoh joined Mr. Ratel, as well as Mobilityland Corporation President Susumu Yamashita, and Pirelli Motorsports’ Ernesto Garcia Domingo, for a joint press conference announcing the regulations for the 47th Summer Endurance Suzuka 10 Hours, to be held on August 24-26 as the successor to the Suzuka 1000km.
