Kubo and Ishikawa join Pacific with Gulf Racing

For the third time in as many seasons, the familiar colors of the Gulf Porsche 911 GT3-R will have a brand new driver lineup behid it for the 2018 Autobacs Super GT Series.

On Wednesday, Pacific with Gulf Racing, the joint venture of Pacific Racing Team and Gulf Racing Japan, confirmed the new driver lineup of Rintaro Kubo and Keishi Ishikawa for 2018, who replace the departing Jono Lester and Kyosuke Mineo.

GT300 Hot Stove League Updates: The Ever-Rising Standard

The field in the Autobacs Super GT Series is starting to come together, following a raft of driver and team announcements during the Tokyo Auto Salon in January.

This edition of the Hot Stove League updates comes courtesy of the upcoming February 2nd issue of auto sport Magazine, with a focus on a GT300 field that projects to see thirty cars on the grid for 2018 – perhaps more – and also focuses on what the future brings for three GT500 drivers from 2017 who seem destined for a hard-luck relegation to what is, still, a very competitive GT300 category.

There will also be more shuffling within the ranks of the established GT300 players, as outlined in this latest batch of Silly Season rumours from the Japanese magazine.

Super GT’s driver introduction ceremonies are the best thing

For 2017, the Autobacs Super GT Series scrapped the Free Practice session on the morning of each race in favour of an opening ceremony at every round – which includes a driver introduction ceremony – not unlike the ones also seen in NASCAR, the Indianapolis 500, or the Bathurst 1000.

It’s a neat addition to the fanfare and pageantry of each Super GT event. And as some teams demonstrated during the Fuji GT 500km Race, it’s also perfect for creating comedic moments.

Toyota Gazoo Racing announces 2017 Super GT programme

Toyota Gazoo Racing and Lexus Gazoo Racing announced their 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series participation in a press conference held Thursday morning at the Mega Web theme park in Toyota City.

Lexus’ six-car GT500 entry is highlighted by the return of Toyota Gazoo Racing ace driver Kazuki Nakajima, who returns to Super GT for the first time since 2015 in the #36 au TOM’s Lexus LC500.

In GT300, apr Racing and LM Corsa are the works teams for TGR, with LM Corsa fielding two brand new Lexus RC F GT3s this season.
