Seven drivers pass Super GT rookie test at Okayama

During the first official pre-season test at Okayama International Circuit for the 2018 Autobacs Super GT Series, seven drivers passed the series’ mandatory rookie & refresher test during the two days of testing.

Rookie candidates Ritomo Miyata (LM Corsa), Hiroki Otsu (Modulo Drago Corse), Marco Mapelli (Money Partners JLOC), Takeshi Kimura (CarGuy Racing), Ryo Ogawa (EIcars Bentley), and Yuya Hiraki ( completed twelve consecutive incident-free laps above the designated benchmark time by the GT Association (GTA) driving standards stewards.

In addition, Ryo Michigami – a veteran of 125 Super GT races over 18 seasons in Super GT – passed it as a refresher test, in preparation for his first Super GT racing activity since 2014.

Lexus flexes their muscle at Okayama manufacturer test

On Thursday, 9 GT500 teams and 3 GT300 teams travelled to Okayama International Circuit for the first day of a manufacturer shakedown test – which will precede the first official Super GT pre-season test on March 17 & 18.

Continuing with last winter’s theme of Lexus supremacy, their LC500s recorded the fastest times of both the morning and afternoon sessions, with the #38 ZENT Cerumo LC500 (Yuji Tachikawa/Hiroaki Ishiura) recording the fastest time of the day, and the GT300 class in both sessions being led by the #65 LEON Cvstos Mercedes-AMG GT3 (Haruki Kurosawa/Naoya Gamou).

Honda officially unveils Super GT NSX GT3 participation

On Saturday, at the Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama, Honda officially presented its two-car effort into the GT300 class of the Autobacs Super GT Series, with their brand-new Honda NSX GT3 that makes its series debut in 2018.

Modulo Drago Corse and CarGuy Racing, along with their drivers who have been hard at work shaking down their new cars over the winter, took part in the event alongside the new NSX GT3. CarGuy Racing also unveiled their new number – 777 – and their yellow and black paint scheme for their debut Super GT season.

Ryo Michigami & Drago Corse return to Super GT!

One of Super GT’s greatest drivers – and the team that he founded just a few short years ago – are coming back to compete in the ultra-competitive GT300 category.

Ryo Michigami and his Drago Corse team will enter the 2018 Autobacs Super GT Series, with the team competing under the name “Modulo Drago Corse” and using the brand-new Honda NSX GT3.

It will mark the return of the Drago Corse name to the series after a year out, and the return of former GT500 Drivers’ Champion Michigami to full-time Super GT driving for the first time since 2013, as he will be partnered by Honda young driver and Super GT rookie, Hiroki Otsu, who graduates from the All-Japan Formula 3 Championship.
