LEON Racing takes dramatic Motegi victory; Goodsmile Racing win 3rd GT300 title

K2 R&D LEON Racing finished out the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series in stunning and dramatic fashion this Sunday, winning the season-ending Motegi GT Grand Final at Twin Ring Motegi with a penultimate-lap pass. It was the second victory of the year for Haruki Kurosawa, Naoya Gamou, and the #65 LEON Cvstos Mercedes-AMG GT3.

And with a third place finish, the #4 Goodsmile Hatsune Miku AMG of Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka took the GT300 championships for the third time for both Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO, and their two drivers – cementing the team’s legacy as one of the all-time great squads in Super GT history.

Goodsmile Racing take major step to GT300 title with Motegi pole

A perfect Saturday continued for the Goodsmile Racing with Team UKYO squad, who followed up posting the fastest time in the morning practice session with the top times in both stages of knockout qualifying – earning them the pole for tomorrow’s Motegi GT Grand Final at Twin Ring Motegi.

Two brilliant performances from champion drivers Nobuteru Taniguchi and Tatsuya Kataoka have put the #4 Goodsmile Hatsune Miku Mercedes-AMG GT3 one step closer to clinching the team’s third GT300 championship in seven years, with both drivers earning a bonus point – and now requiring only a podium finish at the minimum to win the 2017 GT300 championships.

2017 Motegi GT Grand Final Preview: GT300 – History and Destiny Clash

Thirty teams were entered into the GT300 class in the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series, a field boasting unprecedented star power and competition for the second-tier category. At the start of the season, the 2017 GT300 class made a case for being the strongest of all time.

On the eve of the final race of the season, it certainly has lived up to the billing. Amidst a collection of all-pro and pro-am teams, there have been six different winning teams through seven races. Thirteen different teams have put their drivers on the podium. And finally, out of this amazing thirty-car field, we are down to four teams who can still win the GT300 championship, at the 2017 Motegi GT Grand Final at Twin Ring Motegi.

And for the top two challengers, separated by just nine points, it really is a case where one team can fulfill their promise, while another team can cement themselves as immortal legends of the sport.

JMS LM Corsa win at Buriram, Goodsmile Racing re-take GT300 points lead

The #51 JMS P.MU LMcorsa Lexus RC F GT3 of Yuichi Nakayama and Sho Tsuboi took a defining victory in Sunday’s seventh and penultimate round of the 2017 Autobacs Super GT Series, the Chang Super GT Race at Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand.

The young Toyota drivers’ victory from second on the grid moves them into second in the GT300 championship standings, behind the #4 Goodsmile Hatsune Miku Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Nobuteru Taniguchi & Tatsuya Kataoka, which finished a strong second and regained the championship lead with just one race remaining.
