Oshima, Lexus Team LeMans Wako’s fastest in first day of Okayama test

Kazuya Oshima and Lexus Team LeMans Wako’s led the way on Saturday in the first of a two-day test session for the Autobacs Super GT Series, held under clear yet chilly conditions at Okayama International Circuit.

Oshima drove today’s test on his own in the #6 Wako’s 4CR LC500, as his new co-driver for the 2018 Super GT season, Felix Rosenqvist, is in Uruguay this weekend – driving for Mahindra Racing in the Formula E Punta del Este ePrix. In GT300, the #25 Hoppy Toyota 86 MC of Takamitsu Matsui & Sho Tsuboi led the 29-car class, with Matsui setting the car’s fastest lap in the afternoon session.

Takuya Izawa rejoins ARTA for 2018

At this weekend’s Tokyo Auto Salon, Autobacs Racing Team Aguri (ARTA) revealed their 2018 activities in the Autobacs Super GT Series in both GT500 and GT300 categories.

Former Team Kunimitsu driver Takuya Izawa was introduced as the new driver of the #8 ARTA Honda NSX-GT during Honda’s Super GT activities announcement, then joined the rest of his ARTA team during their own TAS panel.

Izawa and Tomoki Nojiri will drive the fabled ARTA NSX, while the #55 ARTA BMW M6 GT3 will be driven by former champion Shinichi Takagi and second-generation sophomore Sean Walkinshaw.

2017 Super GT World Awards: International Driver of the Year

Every year, Super GT World honours the most outstanding performers in the Autobacs Super GT Series with the Super GT World Awards.

As Super GT becomes a sport that reaches a wider audience with every passing year, it attracts the attention of some of the best drivers from around the world. To honour the best driver from overseas, Super GT World presents the International Driver of the Year award, given to the best non-Japanese driver.

2017 Super GT World Awards: Shingo Tachi Memorial Award

Every year, Super GT World honours the most outstanding performers in the Autobacs Super GT Series with the Super GT World Awards.

The Shingo Tachi Memorial Award is given annually to the most outstanding first year driver in Super GT across both GT500 and GT300 categories. It is named after 1998 GT300 Drivers’ Champion Shingo Tachi (1977-1999), who in his first and only season in a tragically shortened career, won the championship and set several unmatchable rookie records along the way.
