Super GT Hot Stove League Update: The Last Pieces of the Puzzle

With all of the GT500 teams and drivers confirmed for the 2018 Autobacs Super GT Series, we can now account for 21 confirmed entries into the GT300 class for next year of an expected 30, with 19 of those teams having two confirmed drivers for this season.

But there are still many prolific teams who have yet to confirm their entries for the 2018 season, including last year’s GT300 championship runners-up at K2 R&D LEON Racing, and series stalwarts like Audi Team Hitotsuyama and Team JLOC.

From the pages of auto sport Magazine, Volume 1474 (which was released digitally this Friday), we can now ascertain what the rest of the grid might look like when it is announced in the weeks to come – with at least one team set to confirm its plans this coming week.

Christian Klien joins Team Taisan SARD for Suzuka 1000km

The 46th International Suzuka 1000km: The Final is already receiving a boost from some high-profile ex-Formula 1 drivers running this race – headlined by Jenson Button, the 2009 Formula 1 World Drivers’ Champion, and Kamui Kobayashi, one of only three Japanese drivers to stand on a Grand Prix podium, both making their Autobacs Super GT Series debuts.

Add one more ex-Formula 1 talent to the list for Suzuka: Christian Klien, ex-Jaguar and Red Bull driver, will join Team Taisan SARD as their third driver alongside Shinnosuke Yamada and Jake Parsons in the #26 Taisan SARD Audi R8 LMS Fukushima, for the sixth round of the 2017 Super GT series.

Team Taisan SARD unveils revamped 2017 Super GT programme

Two new drivers, a new team director, and even plans to move to a new headquarters – these are all on the cards for Team Taisan SARD as the team prepares for the 2017 Super GT season in the GT300 category.

The alliance of two legendary Japanese racing factions, Team Taisan and Team SARD, announced they will relocate to a new headquarters in Fukushima Prefecture during the 2017 season.

Team Taisan SARD also announced that championship-winning team director Hideki Noda will take over as team director for the #26 Taisan SARD/Fukushima Audi R8 LMS, which will be driven by the all-new driver combination of 24-year-old Shinnosuke Yamada and 22-year-old Australian rookie Jake Parsons.

Super GT completes 2017 entry list – many new faces abound!

On Monday, the GT Association, promoter and sanctioning body of the Autobacs Super GT Series, published the updated – and completed – entry list of teams and drivers for the 2017 Super GT season, with all 45 teams and 90 drivers that are expected to participate in the series on a full-time basis this season.

The final eleven seats that had yet to be filled on the GT300 grid – including some from a few prolific teams – have now been filled, two weeks before the start of the first official pre-season test at Okayama International Circuit. It includes four rookie drivers, in a group headlined by defending Porsche Supercup champion Sven Müller joining D’Station Racing.
